He leído la política de privacidad y acepto recibir contenidos relacionados con la preparación del Cambridge Advanced (CAE).
Hoy os presento un ejemplo de Essay. Como os enseño en la formación y en el ebook de Aprobar el CAE, la estructura de un Essay es sencilla, pero es extremadamente importante respetarla.
Mi recomendación, cuatro párrafos perfectamente diferenciados de la siguiente manera:
- Introducir el tema.
- Esgrimir argumentos a favor de la postura A.
- Argumentos a favor de la postura B.
- Conclusión.
El ejemplo que vamos a ver a continuación, es un Essay corregido por un examinador oficial de Cambridge con una puntuación de 16/20 (si bien esto siempre es un tanto subjetivo). Resalto en negrita las expresiones destacadas que debes aprender a introducir para llevar tu Essay al más alto nivel.
MARRIAGE IS NO LONGER RELEVANT IN MODERN SOCIETY
Although it may be thought that new generations are losing some personal values like having respect for the others or acquiring strong commitments, there are some revealing social indicators that could demonstrate all the contrary. One of these significant data is the number of weddings celebrated per year nowadays, compared to the average of marriages being contracted a couple of decades ago.
Evidence may suggest that the interest for matrimony is rapidly decreasing as the new generations are growing and reaching the age for getting married. However, the number of weddings celebrated worldwide during last year has been almost the same than there were ten years ago. It is a very strong point for supporting the claim of those who still believe in the relevance of marriage nowadays.
On the other hand, even if the amount of couples that do still choose this alternative for strengthen their relationship has remained stable, it does not necessarily mean that these marriages last as long as they used to. The best example is the lately approved “express divorce”, which allows a couple to break their live-long commitment in a few hours and for less than 500€.
So, to conclude, and taking everything into account, there is no doubt about the relevance of this religious way of commitment between the members of a couple, at least in terms of people who still do it this way. Despite the economic crisis hitting all around the world, people make the great financial effort for signing their love surrounded by their loved ones, which reveals how important marriage is for them.

Tengo una pregunta: ¿A la hora de expresar nuestra opinión cuando nos lo pide, es bueno comenzar el essay planteándola con el típico «I strongly believe that…» o mejor dejarla para el final?

Hola Javier y gracias en primer lugar por tu agradecimiento y tu pregunta. Si cuando dices comenzar el Essay, te refieres a la 1ª frase, no es acertado. Como ya habrás visto, se trata de plantear la disyuntiva, dar argumentos a favor/contra de cada una de las posibles opiniones y concluir.
A partir de ahí, y por mantener la atención del lector (no olvidemos que quien te evalúa, en ese momento es tu curioso lector), yo lo dejaría para concluir alguno de los párrafos a favor/contra. Dejarlo para el final también es una opción, pero mantén la coherencia, es decir: no digas que la opción A es muy buena, la B también es muy buena pero que tú «strongly believe that…». Si quieres indicar semejante determinacion, tiene que ser evidente y cohetente con tu texto.

Hola! Me encantan tus blogs y tips!! Son de muchisima ayuda!!! Yo te nia una duda porque a veces veo algunos essays con titulo y otras sin, hay que ponerle titulo o no? Y otra cosa que vi tambien que algunos recomiendan poner en la introduccion al final un pregunta retorica, hay que hacerlo? Desde ya mil gracias sos un genio!!!
Gracias Pauli! Me alegro muchísimo de que el blog sea de tu agrado, espera a ver el ebook 😉 En los Essay, los párrafos no llevan títulos. Los que sí llevan son los Report. Respecto a la pregunta retórica, it’s up to you, puede quedar bien, pero no «hay que» hacerlo en el sentido de que sea obligatorio.
